Forum: feature_films Subject: Question about PD status of "Good Against Evil"

Hi,

I'm considering using some clips from Good Against Evil in a commercial work. I see it's at Desert Island Films, and it's been stated that it's PD on these forums:

Are these Public Domain?

However, the reason given is inadequate notice. I watched the film, and it looks like the last frame includes a copyright notice with both the word copyright and the (c) symbol, the year of publication, and the copyright holder. Does anyone know what was inadequate about the notice?

Thanks.

Inclusion of the word "copyright", the year, and the name in the film means the copy here appears to be is copyrighted. (c) is not the symbol for copyright, © is. There may be a release without this notice.

Interesting. It was originally broadcast on TV, so it seems odd that some issues would have the notice and some would not. Probably better off just not using it.

If the letter "C" is in pararetheses like this (C), then the notice is invalid. Also Good Against Evil aired on tv before 1978 when copyright laws changed again. Good Against Evil aired in 1977. I'm pretty sure someone already posted about the copyright notice being invalid.
